Length: Drabble
Rating: all ages
The table froze, balanced outrageously on two legs. Wine had stopped in midair, sloshing out of the goblets in a bizarre sideways waterfall., The other items on the table had similarly impossible position. Eyes flashing, Merlin set the table upright and then turned back to Gaius, his ears pinking at the edges.
"You know, Merlin," the physician said slowly. "Things fall, it's an unfortunate side effect of gravity. Perhaps you would be less accident-prone if you actually let things take their natural progression."
Waving his hands anxiously, Merlin made apologetic gestures as he scrambled for words. "That would be wasteful, Gaius, and we really shouldn't waste the things we have here when there are people who don't have anything,"
"True," agreed Gaius. "Asa matter of fact, there are those who would be very grateful if your head remained on your shoulders. I happen to be one of them. Please try to be more careful - and if you can't avoid the furniture, could you please not do that so readily? Save your quick responses for when they are needed."
Already nodding in agreement, Merlin paused. "Well how am I to keep my reflexes sharp if I don't practice?"
"Practice indicates a controlled, safe environment." Gaius aid. "Honestly, Merlin, have I taught you nothing?
