Oliver leaned closer, grabbing the Head Boy by his scarf and pulling him a little bit closer. Percy looked uncomfortable, his freckles standing out in sharp contrast to the paleness of his skin. The cold pulled at both boys, leaving a bright sharp splash of pink over Oliver's cheekbones, Percy looking as flushed and pale as Oliver had ever seen him.
"The thing is," Percy said, his voice quiet enough that it was almost swept away by the cold winter wind. "I don't really know much -- about, uh, Quidditch, I mean," because he knew enough, having been raised in a family of wizards and most of them men. He had never learned to love it, though, never really played it except for fun when his brothers needed an extra body.
"Yeah," Oliver said, and he tugged on Percy's scarf again, drawing the other boy closer. Percy swayed forward and swallowed, loudly, his breath a little bit harsh in the cool December air. "I know," Oliver told him, smiling slightly. That was part of what he liked about Percy -- he didn't fawn, didn't worship, didn't act as if Quidditch was the only thing Oliver might ever be interested in talking about. "I know," he said again.
"I never really cared," Percy confided, allowing himself to be pulled another half-step closer, until the two boys were sharing the same puff of air and standing so close that only a hair's breadth separated their skin. "It's not -- I don't," Percy said.
"It's not that, you know," Oliver replied, wrapping one arm around the leaner boy's waist, smiling up at him. "I know -- that's why I picked you," and Percy made a soft, kittenish noise like a sigh.
"Oh," Percy breathed.
"Yes," Oliver smiled, and then he leaned forward the last drawn-out centimeter, pulled Percy closer, and kissed him.
